Why Maternity Photos are 100% Worth It

We are gearing up for baby's arrival around here! We're putting last minute touches on the nursery, cleaning everything in sight, and doing alllll the things to encourage a smooth labor and delivery.

Something we did toward the end of this pregnancy was take maternity photos. Especially since this is our first (and maybe only) child, I knew I wanted to document every single moment. We were not previously people who did professional photos; neither of us really did them as kids aside from school pictures. However, once we got these back, we immediately became customers for life.

We took our pictures with Massei Photography, a local husband and wife team that takes beautiful pictures of any type of life event. I was always familiar with their work but I had just never pursued any bookings for myself. They photographed my cousin's wedding about a year ago, and after seeing those pictures I was SOLD.

I was really nervous about these photos. My husband is the easy, photogenic type that feels comfortable having his picture taken. I am not. I feel awkward and suddenly don't know what to do with any of my body parts. One of the reasons I highly recommend Massei Photography is that they go above and beyond to make you comfortable.

They directed us for posing, facial expressions, everything. They were not afraid to tell us if something didn't look right, which I appreciate. They also take a LOT of pictures and you get a lot for your money, which is the point of this blog. Maternity photos are 100% worth it.

Capturing these moments was really important to us. With our infertility journey, it took us a very long time to arrive at this point and we weren't sure we would ever get here. This is also the last time ever that it will be just us two, which is both scary and exciting.

I recognize that it is an immense privilege to take these photos and we are so grateful we could. While we LOVED our experience with professional photos and would do it again 100x over, you don't have to have professionals to document your pregnancy. A friend of mine recently took some photos of her family during her second pregnancy with a tripod in a sunflower field, and they look great!

So here's my advice: take the damn picture. Take pictures of every part of your pregnancy, you will not regret it. It might be worrisome to take pictures when your body has changed so dramatically, but you'll want to look back on it. Whether it's with a photographer or in your back yard with a self-timer, know that the pictures of that precious bump are priceless!
