A Doula's Favorite Baby Products

Okay, so it's no secret that I do not yet have children, not for a few more weeks, anyway! However, I have worked many a postpartum shift and have found some of my very favorite baby products this way! Listed below are five of my favorite products I've used in the homes of my clients. By the way, all of these ended up in my own nursery, too!

1. This Rubber Skip-Hop Changing Pad

This first one is a little on the pricey side, but I think it's 100% worth it! Fabric changing pads or ones with washable covers are fine, but one that can be wiped down is truly a cut-above. I like to keep alcohol wipes in the changing area for quick clean ups when a diaper change goes awry. Just make sure to label your alcohol wipes clearly so no one makes a mistake!

This is a freaking life-saver, y'all. The liner in this hamper sits above the actual shell of the hamper, so icky clothes never touch the inside. The liner itself is washable, so you can throw it in with your clothes! You don't have to worry about something gross inside your hamper or having to disinfect the inside of a basket. We already have one in the nursery, but I have a feeling these will slowly replace all the other hampers in our home.

Alright, not necessarily just a baby item, but one I love for nurseries and environments with new babies! There's usually one outlet close to you in your bed or nursing area, and that is never enough. Between your phone charger, a lamp, your breast pump, a humidifier, and whatever else you might need, this power strip accommodates both regular plugs and USBs. Grab a couple for all over your house!

Another life-saver/no brainer/whatever you want to call it. I hear SO many new parents say, "my baby doesn't like to be swaddled!" and it's almost never true. The point of swaddling a baby is to wrap them up really well so they're snug and can't move. Many new parents struggle with that with conventional swaddle blankets, and that's okay! Velcro swaddles come to your rescue, making it easy to wrap that baby up like a sweet little burrito. Even the most talented Houdini babies won't escape!

I think at this point everyone is familiar with the Classic Haakaa, but I think these little Ladybugs add another important element. The regular Haakaa is great, but is attached only by suction. Many people use it to catch letdown while baby is nursing on the other side, but that leaves it open tothose aggressive baby kicks and wild hands. The Ladybugs can sit in any bra, not even just a nursing bra. It's still suctioned to your breast and provides similar results, but is less cumbersome and more secure. You can even wear these around the house when you're not actively feeding if you find you're having a lot of leaking. Save that liquid gold!

By no means are these the only worthy baby products, they're just some of my favorites I've seen my clients use! As always, use your best judgement and buy what feels right for you. No one knows you and your baby better than you, Mama.
